Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is thrilled to have been chosen as a recipient of funding from Vegware Community Fund. This funding will help support the vital work that we do to care for thousands of lost and abandoned dogs and cats from across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

On Sunday 2 September, we held our popular Paws by the Prom Open Day. More than 1,700 people passed through the Home’s gates for the special event, along with hundreds of their four-legged friends. Pet lovers had lots to see and do at the dog-friendly event, including demonstrations, games, funfair stalls, and dog and cat competitions, as well as lots of food vendors and stallholders. Visitors had the chance to get up close and personal with dogs and cats looking for their forever homes by touring the kennels and cattery. This event raised more than £5,000 which will directly benefit the Home’s furry residents.

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home often meet visitors who have recently lost a pet or need to surrender a dog or cat they can no longer care for. Grieving the loss of a pet or saying goodbye to an animal can be a sad and difficult experience. In September, the Home installed a small reflection garden that will provide a safe space to celebrate the lives of these animals and provide some comfort before leaving our site.

Also in September, the Home rescued 68 dogs and cats within Edinburgh and the Lothians, of which, 18 were reunited with their humans and 44 were re-homed.
