This winter we are very busy doing whatever we can to help refugees. We started by inviting (and funding) a group of 22 asylum seekers to visit our community for a weekend. We had workshops and talks, an evening of food and music, and also – at the request of some of the asylum seekers – football! The asylum seekers stayed with individual families in Cilgwyn and connections began to be made.
Ever since that first big weekend visit we have funded one, two or sometimes three, refugees who have wanted to revisit our Cilgwyn community almost every weekend. The ones who want to come back are not the city boys who searched in vain for bars and smokes – but those from rural communities who recognise our lifestyle. They are eager to use their skills and share them and help us in our work.
