Since covid restrictions have started to ease, the Green Team have seen lots of demand for getting young people out into nature – undertaking conservation tasks, enjoying play, developing skills and taking some time for respite. As well as our usual programmes, October brought the mid-term holiday break and we ran holiday projects at Bonaly country park, Three Hares woodland and Redhall walled gardens. Young people were involved in whittling, fire-lighting, making mini-rafts, protecting newly planted trees and lots of play, exploration and even time to relax in hammocks.
Other highlights include:
– starting to provide nature play sessions with families connected to Edible Estates programmes in Edinburgh (lots of autumnal crafts and other ideas of how families can use local greenspaces)
– welcoming a cultural exchange placement from Albania: sharing how the Green Team use projects in the outdoors to positively engage young people
– our 74 year old patron concluded a fundraising cycle from south to north of Scotland to raise funds that will be used to provide young carers with the chance to take a break from their responsibilities to unwind, make new friends and enjoy some me-time in nature
