Running the Hackney Half Marathon in support of Children of AdamSeptember 2021 has been unique. Lockdown has lifted but the effects of the coronavirus have not subsided, instead our soup kitchen, just like the rest of the UK, has had to contend with petrol shortages and the subsequent supply shortages.

But, as ever, we have much to be thankful for and celebrate. This month a volunteer ran the Hackney Half Marathon to raise money for our distribution. 13.1 miles in 1 hour 47 mins! After over a year of lockdown he wasn’t at his fittest (his words, not ours), but he was determined to do this for Children of Adam and what an achievement! Donations are still coming in, and every penny counts, our guests need support to help them through this period of their lives.

Ugandan-inspired meals served by a volunteer of Children of Adam

Another volunteer supplied Ugandan-inspired chicken meals for the guests and they were a BIG HIT! A welcome change from the meatballs and rice we normally dish up.

The days are getting shorter and our distribution ends each week with the sun setting over London, we are making the most out these final few weeks when we will have daylight, distributing outside under the streetlights brings with it its own challenges.
