For the Thanksgiving Holiday, members of the Vegware team helped the community by volunteering at a local soup kitchen as part of the Community Fund program. We were delighted to work alongside other volunteers as well as the hardworking team at Someone Cares.
A Caring Kitchen
Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, located in Costa Mesa, CA, was established in 1997 by Merle Hatleberg, grandmother of the current Director. Hatleberg believed in treating everyone with kindness and respect, and in giving back to others whenever possible. The kitchen has served more than 300 meals per day for over 20 years to those who are in need.
The kitchen’s mission is to serve good meals seven days a week to make sure no one goes to bed hungry. They also offer an after-school tutoring program for students within the area.
Volunteering Day
Three members of the Vegware’s Huntington Beach team volunteered at the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, before Thanksgiving. As the Holiday season approached, our Huntington office wanted to give back by volunteering for an estimable cause. We chose to help at Someone Cares, working in the kitchen for a day.
Account Executive Megan Bautista and Marketing and Administrative Assistant Sandra Alvarenga helped during the morning shift, preparing the food. Along with other volunteers, they chopped many, many fruits and vegetables to make salads, soups, and entrées. Director of Sales and Operations Andre Newsome volunteered during the afternoon, serving food to the guests and assisting with kitchen clean-up afterward.
“We’re delighted to have visited Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, it was a wonderful experience and we were thrilled to have been part of it, even for a day. Someone Cares is such a special place, that does so much for the community. Thank you to the Someone Cares team for having us and for everything you for your guests,” shares Bautista.
