Gorgie City Farm - December Update
A wedding on the Farm
We issued a special invitation to all our 3 to 5-year olds and their carers, to the wedding of Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay, our two hardworking scarecrows. This was a very special Mac’s Munchkin session, where we read The Scarecrow’s Wedding, by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
Fancy a cuddle?
We recently launched Gift Vouchers for our animal experiences as the perfect Christmas gift. Visitors can use our gift vouchers to book a cuddle session on the Farm with either our pygmy goats, little pigs, or our little animals in our Pet Lodge.
New additions
We were delighted to welcome a couple of new additions to the Farm. The Poll Dorset lambs were only a week old when they arrived. They were both part of triplets, but we’re bottle feeding them to give Mum a rest. We also have four new Tamworth piglets that are settling well in to Farm life.
Community Christmas event
Working in conjunction with the Gorgie Dalry Community Council, and with sponsorship from North British Distiller, we were delighted to host a festive event on the Farm during the “switch-on” ceremony of the Gorgie Dalry Christmas lights.
With festive entertainment for the local community, our thanks go to the four local choirs who sang Christmas carols and songs. Thanks to the Castle Chorus, the Forget Me Notes, the Newhaven Choir, and Capital Voices. The event brought some festive cheer to the Gorgie Dalry area, the local community as well as our extensive number of volunteers and the supporters of Gorgie City Farm.
Festive Season
During the winter the Farm is open from 9:30am to 4:00pm every day. Except 25th December and 1st January, when we’re closed to the public, although there will still be staff on site to look after our animals.
We’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your continued support and to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and good fortune in the New Year!
