The Yard - November Update

November has been another busy month for all of our young adventurers at The Yard. As the dark nights are arriving quicker, we have all been getting involved in what has become one of our most loved games at The Yard; hide and seek in the dark. All of our clubs have been using our head torches and getting involved in a big game in the dark. This means that we don’t let the weather or the winter get in the way of us getting outside and having lots of fun!

This month we also held our very own Bonfire night, firework free. This has become an annual tradition of ours as we found that many of our families find it difficult to access Guy-Fawkes night or bonfire nights, many of which are busy and loud, especially when they involve fireworks. The play team set up a huge bonfire in the middle of one of our sandpits and we have the University of Edinburgh Brass Band who play for a couple of hours. Inside we set up a number of games/activities and serve hot dogs, teas and coffees to warm everyone up! It was an amazing night this year creating a cosy community environment, with more families than ever before coming along to celebrate with their sparklers.

Now we are all looking ahead to Christmas with lots of Christmas activities and decorations planned so that the place is looking festive for our Christmas parties! In Edinburgh we have 3 different Christmas parties, plus an early years party. Each party has around sixty children attending and for many of them it is the only Christmas party they can access as a whole family.
