In February, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has rescued 40 dogs and 13 cats; reunited 2 cats and 17 dogs; and rehomed 7 cats and 19 dogs.

The UK’s unluckiest dog

Last month, we launched an urgent appeal to find a home for our longest-serving resident, Star. This lovable Staffie was abandoned in a derelict building and brought to the Home by the police five years ago. Star showed signs of significant neglect, was substantially underweight and had claws so long they curled painfully underneath the pad of his paw. Star was given urgent veterinary care and lots of training to help him recover both physically and mentally.  Unfortunately, after 1,800 days at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, he is still looking for his forever home.

The appeal has been massively successful, seen almost a million times on our own Facebook page and nearly 100,000 times on the Home’s Twitter page alone. The story has been picked up by Edinburgh Evening News, The Herald, Metro, Edinburgh Live, The List BBC Radio Scotland, Forth 1radio and Pretty52, reaching millions more but we are still waiting to see if the appeal has reached Star’s perfect match.

A purr-fect partnership

A new partnership with City Cabs will offer free uplift of household items for delivery to our charity shops in Stockbridge and Morningside and donations of towels, blankets, toys and treats for the animals on our site in Seafield. This partnership will ensure that those who are unable to visit our shops or shelter can still donate to the charity and help the dogs and cats in our care.  To arrange a collection, visit www.edch.org.uk/donations-collection
