The scrapstore has had a busy month of May. From doing our mosaic workshps with Tollcross P6 kids to opening the doors to the scrapstore weekly – welcoming new members and trying to keep up with sorting out donations. We’ve now got regular donations from Edinburgh Art Framers and the Edinburgh Tile Studio – so bundles of coloured mount board, groovy frames and tiles galore!!
The P6 Tollcross kids were fantastic, they produced some beautiful mosaics which will be putting up on the gable ends of the Wikihouse in the Grove community garden for all to see. Watching kids getting really engaged in learning an art form they’ve never tried before is a pleasure to observe. They drew some amazing designs and with a little help turned them into mosaic panels. They also throughly enjoyed being allowed to break up the tiles with a hammer.
Some of the comments were: “ Can I come back tomorrow and do some more?”, “ I’ve enjoyed this so much more that I ever imagined!”, “Can I come and help you next week?”.
As the kids really enjoyed it and we get a lot of people enquiring, we’ve decided to continue the open mosaic workshops on a Saturday. Anyone can come to the orange bus and try out a bit of mosaic art. We still have a few larger panels to finish for the wikihouse so come down between 12 and 4 if you fancy a being part of the mosaic project.
