It was a wet August, it rained most Sundays and meant our distributions were eventful. In conditions like that, trying to keep food dry at an outdoor soup kitchen is near impossible! But every week we have had something to smile about.
And as school holidays draw to a close a charity who supports our work by providing us with vegetarian meals and cold drinks arrived with homemade cupcakes. These were beautifully decorated by school children who wanted to help those in need, so they came together and learnt how to make each one beautiful. Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and lemon cupcakes with vanilla frosting. They tasted as good as they sound and the love and care put in to them was so appreciated.
Another welcome return to our distribution were the cake and custard offerings which were a weekly addition but unfortunately are no longer. A rare treat now, they are popular and loved… who can say no to custard?!? Not our guests!! And of course you cannot eat such a dessert without a Vegware compostable spoon!
We were left on a sugar high in spite of the rain and readying ourselves for the a new academic term, which we hope will mean new volunteers who want to learn more about homelessness and support their local community.
