We had our Simon Community Summer Picnic on 5 August and it went really well (pic attached). Our Patron Alexei Sayle came and Gaby Roslin was walking past and came to say hello too! This was a lovely surprise and our Community Manager ended up going on her radio show to talk about the Community.
We had a fantastic visit from an American man who lived in the Simon Community as a volunteer in the 90s, he brought his wife and child to look at where he had spent time. It was great to hear his stories and to take him round the house which apparently hasn’t changed that much in the intervening years! He also came out on one of our streetworks which brought back a lot of memories.
One of our residents has had to return to Lithuania because of visa problems. It was sad to see him go, but we sent him off in style with our traditional ‘face cake’ (a lovingly rendered picture of you in cake form).
Our live-in volunteer also left us earlier than planned so we are quite low in numbers at the moment and it’s all hands to the pump. We are always looking for more volunteers so if you know anyone that might be interested please let me know!
