Amongst the many facilities we have here at Style Acre, we have a Community Hub, with the annual awards evening held in December celebrating all the amazing achievements of participants. This annual event is one of the highlights of the year, with the day hub decorated, tables laid out and everyone dressed up we knew the evening was going to be amazing. We celebrated the people we support who are in paid and voluntary work, both within Style Acre and with external organisations. We celebrated community contributions, acts of kindness and helpfulness to others and of course we celebrated the hard work and dedication of our medal making social enterprise.
The medals our team make on a weekly basis are made from 100% recycled paper, the sticker is designed by the team on 100% biodegradable materials and the ribbon is plant based Tencel, which is again biodegradable. No more landfill for these medals! You can plant them in your garden and watch the flowers grow, once you have finished with it. Every week our team meet, build their confidence, learn skills and produce fantastic medals. They are so popular we find it hard to keep up with the demand!
Just over a year ago we closed for a month and refurbished our social enterprise team room and the difference this has made to the team has been amazing. We now support 21 adults per week in the tearoom and the opportunities are so much greater. With the new space, our supported team are able to be involved with many more tasks, from prepping menu items, to making baked treats to sell. We never knew we had so many talented cooks who love making soup, sandwich fillings and cookies!
Over the lats two months our charity shop manager has also started a Vinted social enterprise. Vinted is easy to use, the people we support are empowered to take photos, list the item and help with posting them out to our customers. In a really short time, it has proven to be a great additional social enterprise for our charity.
