We have had a busy Autumn here at NICE, we have been actively supporting individuals with incurable movement disorders, such as cerebral palsy in children and Parkinson’s in adults.
Our services, including the Milestone Club, Red Boots Nursery, Red Boots School, sessional services for older children, and NICE Road to Wellness programmes for adults, are all running smoothly as usual.
Through November we continued to build our Adult Rehabilitation Services, and we currently work with 112 families. All our participants are living with incurable conditions such as Parkinson’s, MS and those recovering from a stroke. The menu of sessions caters for varying needs amongst the participants and ensures we offer an all-round service. We are currently also supporting 66 children and their families over the year through both our free pre-school services for children aged 0-4 and our subsidised sessional services.
In November we teamed up with The Fort Shopping Park to host an Inclusive Treasure Hunt for all ages and abilities. Running from 26th October to 24th November, the event brought families together for fun-filled exploration while raising awareness and funds for Conductive Education. We are incredibly grateful to The Fort for their generosity and support in making this event a success!
On 3rd November, we hosted our annual NICE 10k Run, which brought together over 150 runners together to challenge themselves and complete a 10k run and raise much needed funds for NICE. The energy, determination, and generosity of everyone involved were truly inspiring, and the event was a fantastic success for both awareness and fundraising efforts. The event raised over £4,500!
The children and staff at Red Boots School were also thrilled to welcome Eva Abley, Britain’s Got Talent Finalist 2022 and author of The Good, The Bad and The Wobbly. The children were excited to meet Eva and had many questions for her. We are proud to announce that Eva will be one of our young patrons, helping us raise awareness about NICE and Conductive Education.
In December we held our Winter Fayre and raised an impressive £1,300! We also held our Christmas appeal, including a match funding campaign and various festive fundraising activities, raised over £10,000! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and participated.
We completed the renovation of our school kitchen. The new design is modern, spacious, and much more functional. Our children will now have more opportunities to cook and develop life skills as part of their curriculum – an exciting step forward! We are thrilled to have also secured funding to welcome Open Theatre to our school every week, these workshops bring non-verbal theatrical fun, allowing children to express themselves through music and movement. Thanks to a generous donation from the Local Schools Nature Grants (LSNG), we’ve also started enhancing our children’s knowledge of climate change. Staff received insightful training in our school garden, and we plan to integrate these activities into our spring term curriculum.
At NICE we are always working to respond to our family’s needs and push to develop our provision so we can wrap our arms around every need our families have and are very thankful for all the kind support we receive which has helped us have a very successful autumn.
