We were delighted to visit a few primary schools during June, including Lomond Primary in Helensburgh and Coylton Primary School in Ayrshire. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed playing with the real beeswax to make gorgeous candles, and then loved sampling a variety of honeys from across Scotland. The Heather honey went down a treat!

The biggest event in our member’s calendar occurred this month, the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh. We have a wonderful team of passionate volunteers who man the Honey Competition Tent across the duration of the show. This year they managed to meet, greet and chat all things bees and beekeeping to 10,000 visitors per day in the tent, well done to everyone!! Not only did our marvellous volunteers give their time freely to engage with lots of excited visitors, but many of them also took the time to enter the competition classes and created some beautiful, now ‘award winning’ products.

We can’t wait for next month, when a team of 3 young beekeepers will be heading to Slovakia to represent Scotland in the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers competition. This competition sees 34 countries from across the globe gather and compete in a variety of tasks all centred around beekeeping skills and honeybee knowledge. More to follow in July….
