Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has rescued 38 dogs and 14 cats; reunited 11 dogs and 1 cat; and rehomed 21 dogs and 13 cats in March.
Finding fame and a forever home
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home was invited back to ITV’s This Morning to feature some of our dogs up for rehoming, after featuring on the show at the end of last year. With so many deserving animals, it was a hard choice but we took two Westies, Hamish, who was born blind, and his brother Angus, down to London for their big debut. Angus helps Hamish get around each day and they refuse to be separated.
Hamish and Angus loved all the attention and snuggled up to Ruth and Eamonn on the couch. People loved their sweet story and our phones were ringing off the from the moment they appeared on the screen! With so much interest, it was easy to find the perfect family for these handsome brothers. We are happy to report that they have already gone home with their new forever family and are settling in perfectly.
Helping Hands
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home would not be able to do what we do without the help of volunteers. Whether they are helping at a fundraising event, offering their professional skills in the office, or rolling up their sleeves to help keep our kennels clean, volunteers play a vital role at the Home.
In March we welcomed some new fundraising volunteers from Edinburgh College. These amazing students helped pack bags at a local Marks & Spencer’s store and raised nearly £200 for the Home.
Upcoming Events
Our Big Animal Pub Quiz in April has officially sold out. We are looking forward to hosting nearly 200 people at this event, with tons of great prizes, raffles and fundraising games on the night to help raise vital funds for the Home.
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home will also be hosting a giant dog walk on 25 May with the support of Agria Pet Insurance. The Agria Dog Walk 2019 will be part of a Europe-wide event, with dogs and their humans walking at the same time across six countries to raise money for the animals awaiting their forever homes. Agria are generously donating £5 to the Home for every dog walked on the day. The event will be taking place simultaneously in Denmark, Finland, France, Norway, Sweden, and here in Edinburgh, along the picturesque Portobello Promenade. As well as walking, we’ll have a whole of host of other fun activities happening on the day with food, stalls and entertainment at the Home. To sign up to the event, visit edch.org.uk/agria-dog-walk
