June has been a really busy month as the school holidays arrived and we wound up a number of projects that had been running over the course of the term – we will report back on a few of those projects next month once we have collated all the feedback. While those projects have been going there has been lots of other exciting developments – we worked with the Eco-Friendly Web Alliance took actions to reduce the environmental impact of our website, presented our work at a VisitScotland conference, and much more.
However, with Volunteers week taking place in June this update is all about our volunteering. During June we sent each of our amazing volunteers a big thank you as well as some wildflower seeds to enable them to encourage nature in their local areas, we welcomed a funder along on one of our projects to see volunteering in action and we ran an environmental games and methodology training session for our volunteers. We were also delighted that our volunteer coordinator, Mandy, was awarded the Paul Bennett Volunteer Manager of the Year at Edinburgh’s Volunteer Awards at the City Chambers. Mandy has been recruiting, supporting, and developing volunteers with the Green Team for over 17 years and thoroughly deserves this recognition – we are thrilled that her efforts have been recognised by Volunteer Edinburgh but also by our volunteers:
‘From day one I felt I was welcomed into a community with open arms, supported, appreciated, and encouraged. I could not have foreseen how enjoyable volunteering with the Green Team would be’.
