March was an exciting month at the Forge. We hosted our first courses in ‘Introduction to Woodwork’ and ‘Introduction to Metalwork’, paid for by the Neighbourhood Partnerships Community Grant. Instructors Teresa Hunyadi and Michael Merillo led the sessions, teaching participants about material properties, as well as giving participants an opportunity to practice new skills and learn about tools. We hope we have inspired participants to continue to learn skills, as well as share them with others.

The Forge directors and Ian, an active volunteer, were also given guidance from the instructors. In their metalwork classes they learned how to use their new welder, whilst in woodwork they practised using the lathe, and got expert advice on maintaining and sharpening chisels and knives. They hope to pass on their knowledge to Forge members. Many thanks to Teresa and Michael!
