Supporting teachers

We held our second, annual Teachers’ information event at the Farm. A great opportunity for us to share details of our school and nursery workshops and tours. It’s also a chance for teachers to network and for us to see how our education team can support classroom learning.

Half-term holidays

We were delighted to have another sell out season of our holiday activities during the school half-term holidays. With over 50 Farmer’s Helpers and almost 20 taking part in Animal Crackers, we received lots of help over the holidays. Farmer’s Helpers runs on weekdays for 8 to 13-year olds, and they do real jobs across the Farm, including mucking out, feeding, and grooming. Animal Crackers is for 5 to 7-year olds and participants have the chance to stroke and handle animals and find out about how to look after them.

Mac’s Munchkins is back

Delighted to be able to offer an activity for our younger visitors. Mac’s Munchkins is our drop-in activity group for 3 to 5-year olds, with a mixture of stories, songs, and animal encounters.

Café open

Delighted to be able to open our café again, offering a limited menu of hot drinks, soup, cakes, and lunch boxes for the little ones. Our café is currently open at weekends and during school holidays.

Rotary support

We were delighted to receive a cheque for £150 from the Rotary Club of Currie Balerno. It’s great when local organisations and businesses support the Farm.

Marathon support

We’re thrilled that a team from Bennett’s Associates are taking on the Edinburgh Marathon Festival’s hairy haggis relay in aid of the Farm.

Gifts in kind

We were delighted when the local community came to our aid when our old CD finally gave up the ghost! We used the power of social media to ask our supporters if anyone had a spare player they weren’t using. We were blown away when a group of hearts fans (Jambos Kickback @jamb0skickback) offered to club together to buy us a brand-new CD player.

Seed swap

Our annual Seed Swap event was another roaring success, with visitors bringing their extra seeds and collecting some interesting swaps. We can wait to see the variety of plants and vegetables that people have managed to group.

We’re recruiting

We’re recruiting a visitor facing ‘can do’ Caretaking & Farm Assistant. This post will report to the Farm & Estates Manager in the day to day presentation, caretaking and maintenance across the Farm. It great the Farm team is expanding!

Olive the Duck is a Twitter sensation

We’re delighted that our Olive the duck is now a Twitter sensation. A Tweet about her likes and dislikes has had over 39,000 likes and over 11,000 retweets. Go Olive!

Easter at the Farm

Easter was a busy time on the Farm, with new lambs and new chicks for our visitors to see. The good weather helped boost our visitor numbers too.

Opening hours

The Farm is open from 9:30am to 4:00pm every day. Pop by, have a wander, and let us know that you heard about us from this Blog.
