A Little Magic and Lots of Love
We love seeing all our animals find their forever homes, but some of these moments are extra-special for our staff. Magic, an 8-year-old Staffie Cross, had been in and out of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home since 2014. After the Home released a campaign to find some of our longer-term residents a home, Magic found his match. Magic’s new owner was no stranger to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and had rehomed a dog from the shelter over 10 years ago. We are thrilled that Magic has found his forever home and will get all the cuddles he deserves!
Happy People, Happy Animals
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is proud to have become the first animal welfare organisation to become a Living Wage employer! The Home is incredibly proud of the skills, professionalism and dedication of our staff. The Home’s commitment to providing all staff with a living wage is part of a wider wellbeing strategy to ensure that staff feel valued for the hard work they do every day and that we are providing as much support for our staff as possible.
New Runs = More Wagging Tails!
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home opened four new exercise runs in our large paddock at the end of June. These bespoke spaces have been designed to provide green space for our staff to exercise and train our dogs, in addition to conducting outdoor rehoming visits, which best show off the animals’ potential and personality.
These new spaces will allow our dogs to spend more time outside, receiving more physical and mental stimulation. This will help to reduce kennel stress and ensure that each dog receives the training they require, giving them the best opportunity to find a loving, forever home.
The exercise spaces have been constructed with nervous dogs in mind, with an separate entrance to ensure minimal interaction between animals. The runs themselves can be viewed from the Seafield end of Portobello promenade, allowing the dogs some extra socialisation and a lovely sea view!
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home was able to open these new runs with the generous support of the John and Alice Watson’s Charitable Trust, who generously awarded a grant of £120,000 for the project.
