BHSG Volunteer Activities and Updates
We have new volunteers getting started with us and we have had an English Language Student from Edinburgh College on a 3 week placement with us. Along with our ongoing placement with our ‘HNC Communities’ Student.
Our Volunteer Support Worker Jocelyn has had a very positive interview day with ‘Investing in Volunteers’ and a report has been submitted for the spring Judging Panel.
Our Website Volunteer Anthony had an overhaul of the website and it is looking fantastic.
Our ongoing ‘Tasty Bite Thursday’ is proving popular with our shop volunteers and our customers. This is also supported by our shop volunteer Sue Herbert who goes to collect the Fareshare food from Tesco in the evening.
We had a visit from the Buggy Gym mums after their outdoors exercise at ‘The Grove’ the playpark near the shop. They came along with our other customers to try smoothies and were offered a free salad or pasta bag from ‘Fareshare’ to take home and enjoy.
Other Community Activities and services
‘Broomhouse Health Chat’
We had a fantastic community event in the local hall on the 15th March. Lots of volunteers, local people joined in with activities, and workshops to share thoughts on what’s the best and what’s not so good about local services. We had taster sessions of Tone n Flex, a demo/ and come and try it sessions of cake decoration along with some arty crafty spring creations. We gathered lots of thought, including health and well-being, our projects and other local issues and we look forward to reporting and acting upon them.
Easter School Holiday Activities
On 29 March and 5th April in the school holidays have our very popular‘ Cooking up a Story’ in the mornings and ‘Cooking with Kids’ in the afternoon. It has all been great fun with rhymes and games and making ‘Easter hot cross scones’
