Greetings to everyone from B Healthy Together which is the new name for Broomhouse Health Strategy Group.  We have been busy changing over all our marketing, publications and online media so thanks for your patience and we hope the new name will make us more approachable and less clunky sounding.

The 6 week walking netball pilot is coming to an end and we’ve had a lot of fun and laughter as well as fierce competition!  Hopefully we can play some more later in the year and a big thanks to Jayne Smith, Lifelong Learning and Development Officer at Edinburgh Council and Kate from Netball Scotland.  People playing commented on just how much fun they have had and how surprised they have been with how much they ended up running about.

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness week this May, the Friday walking group took a trip to see a really fascinating art exhibition by Margaret Ramsay who has given a talk once before to the group.  The exhibition explored themes of mental ill health and recovery through art and it was amazing to have Margaret present to talk us through her work, so a big thank you to her too – a really proud moment.

The walking group also got their miles in to celebrate the Walking Month of May and the group are starting to think about their Summer excursions where we go further afield for a longer walk and to see some other places of (relatively) local interest.

The mindfulness block is going well and we are looking forward to a trip to the Botanic gardens in June to practice some mindfulness movement and take the techniques out of the classroom.  People attending the course have commented how they have been able to try some of the methods out at home and how it has given them tools to help manage things like anxiety, depression and low mood.

We hope everybody’s getting their gardens and growing space in order as now is the time to really get on top of those weeds and put that extra effort in.  It will all be worth it come the harvest!
