Scottish Beekeepers' Association - November Update

November was all about food for us! We were delighted to be asked along to two Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) events this month. At the first event in Stirling, children from 11 primary schools across Forth Valley area and beyond discovered the importance of farming and agriculture to our food supply chain and we were delighted to tell them more about the unpaid farm labourers, Scotland’s honeybees!

Next, we travelled to the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston in Edinburgh, to participate in a 2-day RHET Farm to Fork extravaganza. Children from classes Primary 5 to 7 from 22 schools across Edinburgh and the Lothians enjoyed a fun filled, foody day and were delighted to learn more about honeybees and their role in pollination, but most of all they were bee-side themselves to sample some delicious local honeys!

Last stop for our education team was St Peter’s Nursery in Galshiels where they were delighted to hear how much the 2-5year olds already knew about bees. And what a lovely swarm of bees welcomed them there!!
