On behalf of Balerno Fairtrade Village Group, I wanted to write to thank you for Vegware’s very generous support of our annual Fairtrade event which this year was on 5 March 2016. The Big Balerno Fairtrade Breakfast, craft and coffee morning was very well attended and although it was intended primarily to raise awareness of Fairtrade initiatives and fairly traded products, with your help, we have been able to raise £550 which will be shared between Mary’s Meals and the Manzini Trust (Swaziland), founders of a long-established project with street children and producers called Eswatini Kitchen.
Our event combined stalls showcasing fairly traded crafts and foods from around the world, raffles and children’s activities and we made presentations to the winners from the local primary school in our competition to produce a design as the basis for a logo for our group. Many proud parents and grandparents were there to support the winners, as well as other local residents, local council officials, our elected MP and we even served a breakfast to two of our local constabulary. This year, we were also able to contribute to the UK-wide Big Fairtrade Breakfast where your donations helped us toward an amazing 300+ Fairtrade breakfasts and some delicious homebaking.
